To accommodate an expanding physicians group, Boston Children’s built this new 25,000-square-foot single-story development
Designing and planning for a state-of-the-art medical clinic in a 110-year-old post-and-beam mill building presented a challenge. The new facility houses specialty clinics, including pediatric allergy, cardiology, urology, ophthalmology, ORL, audiology and diagnostic imaging. We designed the floor plan to include interchangeable rooms capable of accommodating multiple specialty services. Furthermore, the project included a new addition in an existing courtyard to house the diagnostic radiology spaces. This involved careful planning of the new foundation and the underpinning by hand of the original rubble foundations in the adjacent buildings.
